Scott Radke is an artist from Cleveland, Ohio who specializes in sculptural works involving animal and human hybrids. Scott’s creatures often come across as grotesque, sad, and resigned beings that evoke in their viewers a sense of sinking despair and gloom. However, one is drawn to these creatures for their apparent innocence and understated desperation.
The artist takes his inspiration from nature and his marionettes mirror this in their mild and earthly shades of greys and browns. Joe Sorren, Maurice Sendak, Jim Henson, Chris Ryniak, Amanda Spayd, and Chet Zar are amongst some of the artists that motivate Scott.
Scott’s works have been featured in films including Voices In My Head, a BBC documentary directed by David Malone; Desolation Sound, starring Jennifer Beals; God in the Machine, starring Thomas Jay Ryan; and Birthday Massacres music video, Blue. The artist’s works have also been showcased in a number of prestigious galleries including shows in Thinkpsace Gallery, Jonathan LeVin Gallery, and Strychnine Gallery. A collection of the artist’s distinctive works can be seen below.
