Craig Kosak is a Seattle based artist who has been in the artistic profession for the past 35 years. Craig studied at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California for a year in the late 70s and has taken many classes and workshops at other institutions in the years since then – most notably at the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle. For the most part, however, the artist is self taught.
Craig is inspired by wildlife he encounters during his road trips to the National Parks of the Western United States - “I only paint the wildlife that finds me and with which I have close personal encounters. Ravens found me in the Tetons, Bisons in Yellowstone, Wolves in the Sequoias and Horses in the hills of New Mexico. I also include images of petroglyphs in my paintings – they are the voice of the Ancient One. Going deeper, each of the animals in my work represents a specific emotive quality. The Raven is a guide to appreciation of our dark inner selves. The Horse calls us to realize the power of sensitivity. The Bison brings the calm confidence of centeredness and abundance, and the Wolf inspires wit and intelligence" the powerful artist tells us.
Craig’s work that is currently represented by four galleries in the Western United States has appeared in a number of juried exhibitions over the years, and has won numerous awards including the Patrons Award at the Masters of Influence Invitational.
His works represent a balance between the inner and outer worlds where realistic subjects are balanced with abstract elements. A collection of the artist’s forceful works can be viewed below:
