Sublime, Mystical, Timeless: The artwork of Roi James

Roi James is an artist from Austin, Texas who has been in the artistic profession for the past 13 years. Roi, whose work resides in many prestigious private collections throughout central Texas and the United States, was a professional musician in his 20’s and rediscovered fine art when he was almost 30.

The foundation of Roi’s work is the desire to express a sublime and mystical beauty regardless of the subject matter or genre that the artist works with. “My hope is that the work will have a timeless quality that will transcend fashion and trend.” Meditation is a recurring theme in Roi’s artwork and is approached in a variety of ways. “The subject can be portrayed in the act of meditation. My abstract work contains patterns that can be compared to visual mantras. Then there is the very act of viewer meditating on the work. Butterflies have figured largely in my work. The butterfly is a symbolic creature which must go through a transformation in order to become what it is”, the dedicated artist tells us.

Roi has showed in galleries for about 6 years and was represented in Santa Fe, Houston, Austin, and Hudson NY. In 2002, Roi decided to become entirely self represented and marketed his work exclusively through his own studio in Austin Texas. What we love most about the artist's work is the diversity of his styles - Roi works successfully in most genres including landscape, figurative and abstract.
